A native species in the eastern United States, the eastern fox squirrel is an introduced species in Oregon and is commonly seen in many urban parks, along with the eastern gray squirrel (also introduced).

Eating Bark
I came across this hungry squirrel one day after work while hiking at Tualatin Hills Nature Park. It was stripping bark off the tree (as you can see in the upper right of the photo) and then stopping to eat each little strip before going back for more.
I'll let you make your own jokes about its bite being worse than its bark. |
Black & White
Fox squirrels in some areas can have distinctive coloration. Some of the squirrels in the area had the more typical coloration, but this one in Conway, South Carolina was one of the squirrels with black and white fur.

Eating Berries
The sun was setting and had already disappeared from the part of the hill where this squirrel was dining in the trees at Hoyt Arboretum in Portland.
